An Introduction to Voice over IP
(VoIP)
Duration: 3 days
Course Description:
Technical developments over the last 5 years or so have made the use of IP
networks for telephony and video conferencing applications a reality.
It is now possible to contemplate replacing separate voice and telephony
networks with a single IP network.
This course covers the principles and theory underlying VoIP , the various
design options available and possible migration paths from a two network to a
one network system. It also covers the coexistence of VoIP networks with regular
telephone networks.
You can learn key skills …
- Increased awareness of the benefits of voice and data integration.
- Understanding of the signal processing, encoding and Quality of
Service management technologies necessary for transmitting voice and video
streams over packet switched networks
- Ability to interpret and evaluate the many standards and protocols in
this area
- Knowledge of how to interface VoIP networks with PABX and Centrex
systems, as well as classical Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) based
systems
- An enhanced awareness of services and applications that can be
developed by making use of VoIP and XML Voice - especially in the areas of
Customer Relationship Management, and Customer Support
Who Needs to Attend:
The course is aimed at those who already have a basic understanding of
networks and datacomms, and TCP/IP and who will be responsible for evaluating,
designing or deploying VoIP networks.
The emphasis in this course is on the understanding the technologies,
protocols and standards that make up VoIP and IP Telephony systems.
Network design, sizing , management and migration issues are covered.
The new application development possibilities raised by VoIP are covered -
especially in connection with the development of next generation call centers,
and new Web based customer support applications.
The implications of combining VoIP technology with XML technology are also
discussed.
Prerequisites:
The course assumes a basic understanding of networks and datacomms, and
TCP/IP.
