An Introduction to Voice over IP (VoIP)

Course Description:

 

Technical developments over the last 5 years or so have made the use of IP networks for telephony and video conferencing applications a reality. 

 

It is now possible to contemplate replacing separate voice and telephony networks with a single IP network. 

 

This course covers the principles and theory underlying VoIP , the various design options available and possible migration paths from a two network to a one network system. It also covers the coexistence of VoIP networks with regular telephone networks.

Who Needs to Attend:

 

The course is aimed at those who already have a basic understanding of networks and datacomms, and TCP/IP and who will be responsible for evaluating, designing or deploying VoIP networks. 

 

The emphasis in this course is on the understanding the technologies, protocols and standards that make up VoIP and IP Telephony systems.

 

Network design, sizing , management and migration issues are covered.

The new application development possibilities raised by VoIP are covered - especially in connection with the development of next generation call centers, and new Web based customer support applications.

 

The implications of combining VoIP technology with XML technology are also discussed.

The course assumes a basic understanding of networks and datacomms, and TCP/IP.
